The notary stamps and signs the copy, and the stamp states it is a true copy of the original. Banks, employers, universities and government offices often ask for a certified true copy instead of the original, so the original stays with you. A photocopy with no stamp is not a certified true copy, however clear it is. - The stamp and signature are on every page that needs them - The date on the stamp matches the day you brought the original - Nothing on the copy is cropped, cut off or illegible ## Who attends, and what we check You, or whoever holds the original document Passport or Emirates ID, to confirm the copy is yours The original document, in full The copy, page by page against the original Whether the copy needs further attestation for use abroad ## Where a certified true copy gets refused We cannot certify a copy against another copy, only against the original. We cannot certify a document that looks altered, where a page is missing, or where the original itself has expired, such as a passport past its date. If the original cannot be produced, tell us early. Some authorities accept a different route, such as a declaration, and we tell you which one. ## Common problems, and the fix 01 The original was not brought Fix: bring the original, a certified copy cannot be issued without it. 02 The copy is unclear Fix: we copy it for you at the office. 03 The original has expired Fix: tell us before you visit, there may be a different route. 04 More copies are needed later than expected Fix: ask for extra certified copies at the time, it saves a second visit.
