The most common use is corporate: before a company can close through a members voluntary liquidation, the directors sign a declaration confirming the company can pay everything it owes within a set period, and the shareholders then pass a resolution to wind up and appoint a liquidator. A less formal, personal version appears in some visa, residency or sponsorship files, where an applicant signs a declaration of financial solvency to support an income or net worth claim, usually alongside bank statements or an accountant’s certificate. The two are worded differently and carry different weight. A liquidation declaration should follow the company’s actual accounts, and a director who signs one carries personal responsibility for it being accurate.
