What marriage contract attestation is
Marriage contract attestation confirms that a marriage contract you already hold is authentic, so a UAE authority, a bank, an employer or a receiving country can rely on it. It is not the same step as drafting or registering the marriage itself, and it is not a power of attorney for marriage, which is a different document entirely used to authorise someone to conduct a marriage on another person’s behalf. Attestation is for a contract that already exists, usually issued by a court, a religious authority or a foreign registrar, and now needs to be confirmed before it is accepted somewhere else, in the UAE or overseas.
When marriage contract attestation is needed
For a UAE government process
A visa, a name change or a family sponsorship application asking for an attested contract.
For a bank or employer
A bank or employer that asks for proof the marriage contract is genuine.
For use outside the UAE
A contract issued in the UAE being sent to a foreign authority.
A foreign marriage contract for use here
A contract issued abroad, being presented to a UAE authority.
What must accompany the contract
01
The original marriage contract
Issued by the court, religious authority or registrar that recorded the marriage.
02
Passport or Emirates ID
For both spouses, where both are named on the contract.
03
Where it will be used
The authority or country it is going to, so we attest it correctly.
04
A certified translation, where needed
If the contract is not already in Arabic or English, a certified translation has to accompany it.
05
Any earlier attestation already obtained
Where a step has already been completed elsewhere, such as in the country of issue.
A different stage from drafting
Attesting a marriage contract is a narrower service than drafting or registering one, and it moves faster because the facts are already settled, the contract already exists and signed. We confirm what the receiving authority or country expects before you attend, so the contract is attested in the form that is actually accepted where it is going.

What to bring
The original marriage contract, passport or Emirates ID for both spouses where named, and a note of where the attestation is going.

Marriage contract attestation
Confirms a contract that already exists and is signed.
Power of attorney
Power of attorney, marriage
Authorises someone else to conduct or sign for a marriage, a different instrument entirely.

Where the contract is going decides what is needed
A marriage contract being presented inside the UAE usually needs less than one being sent abroad. A contract travelling to another country often needs a further step at the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and sometimes at that country’s embassy, after our attestation. We tell you the full route before you attend, not after.
- A UAE authority often accepts our attestation on its own
- A foreign authority usually needs a further step after it
- A contract not already in Arabic or English needs a certified translation first

Where marriage contract attestation is held up
Attestation is usually held up for one of a few reasons. The contract is not in Arabic or English and no certified translation has been arranged. The receiving country needs a further step, such as its embassy’s own attestation, that has not been scheduled. Or the contract itself is unclear about who the parties are. We check the destination’s requirements before you attend.
Common problems, and the fix
01
The contract is not in Arabic or English
Fix: arrange a certified translation before attestation.
02
A further step is needed for the destination country
Fix: confirm the full route with us before you attend, so nothing is missed.
03
The parties are not clearly named
Fix: check the contract against both passports first.
04
The original contract cannot be located
Fix: request a certified copy from the issuing court or registrar.
After attestation
01
Present it where it is needed
The attested contract goes to the UAE authority, bank, employer or country it was prepared for.
02
Complete any further step abroad
Where the destination country needs its own additional attestation.
03
Keep a copy
Keep the attested original and a digital copy for your own file.
04
Use it within the purpose stated
A marriage contract attested for one purpose is usually accepted for others, but check with the receiving party first.

A related personal document
Marriage contract attestation often comes up alongside other personal documents, such as a will or an affidavit, for the same family matter.

Questions about marriage contract attestation
Is this the same as a power of attorney for marriage?
No. Attestation confirms a contract that already exists. A power of attorney for marriage authorises someone else to act, a different document.
Do I need to attend in person?
Not always. Our online notary public service covers attestation where the destination authority accepts it.
Does my marriage contract need to be in English?
If it is not already in Arabic or English, a certified translation has to accompany it before attestation.
What if the contract is going to another country?
Tell us the destination and we confirm the full route, including any further step needed there.
Can both spouses attend separately?
Usually both are expected together where both are named on the contract. Tell us your situation and we confirm what applies.
How much does marriage contract attestation cost?
We quote after reading the contract and knowing its destination, since the route differs by authority and country.
