WILL ATTESTATION, UAE
Will Attestation in Dubai
Will attestation is for a will you have already drafted and signed, now being attested so it is accepted by a bank, a foreign authority or wherever it needs to be presented. Our in-house notary public handles it at our Business Bay office, online or at your home.

What will attestation covers
Will attestation is for a will that already exists, drafted earlier by you, a lawyer or a foreign solicitor, that now needs to be attested, for instance so a bank recognises it, so it can be presented to a foreign court, or so it is accepted as part of a wider document file. This is a different stage from drafting a will from scratch, which is a longer process covering who receives what, an executor, guardianship and how the will is registered. If you have not yet drafted a will, our wills page covers that from the first conversation.
When will attestation is needed
A will drafted abroad
A foreign will being presented to a UAE bank, employer or authority.
A will drafted here, for use abroad
A UAE will being sent to a foreign court or institution.
Confirming an existing document
A bank or institution asking for proof the will on file is genuine.
Part of a wider document file
A will attested alongside other personal documents for one matter.
What must accompany the will
01
The original, signed will
The document as executed, not a draft.
02
Passport or Emirates ID
For the person who made the will, where attestation requires their presence.
03
Where it will be used
The bank, authority or country it is going to, so we attest it correctly.
04
A certified translation, where needed
If the will is not already in Arabic or English.
05
Confirmation of any earlier step
Where part of the process has already been completed elsewhere.
A separate step from formal registration
Attesting a will you already hold is not the same as registering it with a will registry such as the DIFC Wills Service or Dubai Courts, which is its own process with its own route and fee, covered on our wills page. We tell you plainly which step you need: attestation of the document you hold, or full drafting and registration from the start.

Where the will is going decides what is needed
A will being used inside the UAE for a bank or employer often needs less than one travelling to a foreign court. We confirm the destination before you attend, so the attestation is in the form that is actually accepted.
- A UAE institution often accepts our attestation on its own
- A foreign court or registry may need a further step after it
- A will not already in Arabic or English needs a certified translation first
Who attends, and what we check
The person who made the will, where their presence is required
Passport or Emirates ID
The original, signed will
Where the attestation is going
Whether a certified translation is needed first
Where will attestation is held up
Attestation is usually held up for a specific reason. The will is not in Arabic or English and no certified translation has been arranged. The destination asks for a registry step, such as the DIFC Wills Service, that attestation on its own does not replace. Or the document on hand is a draft, not the signed original. We confirm the route before you attend.
Common problems, and the fix
01
The will is not in Arabic or English
Fix: arrange a certified translation before attestation.
02
The destination needs formal registration, not attestation
Fix: tell us early, so we point you to the right route.
03
Only a draft is on hand, not the signed original
Fix: locate the signed original before booking.
04
The destination’s requirements are not yet confirmed
Fix: tell us where it is going before you attend, so we check first.
After attestation
01
Present it where it is needed
The attested will goes to the bank, authority or country it was prepared for.
02
Complete any further step abroad
Where the destination asks for an additional step after ours.
03
Keep a copy
Keep the attested original and a digital copy for your own file.
04
Review the will itself, separately
Attestation does not change what the will says. Review the contents with us if it needs updating.

Have not drafted a will yet
If you do not yet have a will, our wills page covers drafting one from the first conversation, including beneficiaries, an executor, guardianship and the registration route that fits you.

Questions about will attestation
Is this the same as drafting a will?
No. Will attestation is for a will you already have. Drafting one from scratch, with beneficiaries, an executor and guardianship, is covered on our wills page.
Can you register my will with the DIFC Wills Service?
Formal registration with a will registry is a separate step with its own process. Tell us your situation and we point you to the right route.
Does my will need to be in English?
If it is not already in Arabic or English, a certified translation has to accompany it before attestation.
What if my will is going to another country?
Tell us the destination and we confirm what else is needed there, before you attend.
Do I need to attend in person?
Not always. Our online notary public service covers attestation where the destination accepts it.
How much does will attestation cost?
We quote after reading the will and knowing where it is going, since the route differs by destination.

What the reply will contain: whether the document is fit for what you need it to do, what would have to change, who would need to attend, and what it would cost.
