Residence Declaration in Dubai
A residence declaration confirms where you live in the UAE, signed in front of our notary public when a tenancy contract or utility bill is not enough on its own. We notarise it at our Business Bay office, online or at your home, from AED 600.

What a residence declaration is
A residence declaration is a written statement confirming your residential address in the UAE, signed in front of a notary. It is usually asked for when the normal proof of address, a tenancy contract, an Ejari certificate or a utility bill, is missing, in someone else’s name, or does not cover the exact period an authority needs. Schools ask for one when enrolling a child whose family lives with relatives rather than on their own lease. Banks ask for one when opening an account for someone not named on the tenancy. Visa sponsors and some government departments ask for one to confirm a dependant’s address matches the sponsor’s. The declaration does not replace a tenancy contract where one exists and is accepted, it fills the gap when one is not available.
When a residence declaration is used
Bank account opening
Confirms address where the applicant is not on the tenancy.
A government department
Confirms residence where other proof is incomplete.
What the declaration must contain
01
Your identity
Full name as on your passport or Emirates ID.
02
The address
Written exactly as it appears on any supporting proof.
03
The basis for the address
Family tenancy, shared accommodation, or another arrangement.
04
A declaration of truth
That the statement is made knowingly and is true.
05
Your signature before the notary
Witnessed and recorded at the point of signing.
Matching the supporting proof
A residence declaration carries more weight when it lines up with whatever proof of address does exist, a relative’s tenancy contract, a utility bill in a spouse’s name, or a letter from a landlord. We ask what you can show alongside the declaration, because an address stated on its own, with nothing behind it, is weaker than one supported by even one other document. Tell us what you have and we tell you whether it is enough, or what else to bring.

What to bring
Passport or Emirates ID, your UAE residence visa page, and any proof of address you have, a tenancy contract, Ejari, utility bill or bank statement, even in someone else’s name.
Residence declaration
Residence declaration
A sworn statement of address, signed before our notary, for when other proof is incomplete.
Standard proof
Ejari or utility bill
A tenancy contract or a bill in your own name, where one is available and accepted.

The address has to match what proof you have
Where there is a tenancy contract, utility bill or bank statement, even in a relative’s name, the declaration should state the address exactly as it appears there. We check this before you sign.
- The same address throughout
- Consistent with any supporting proof
- Both language texts checked together
Who signs, and what we check
The person whose address is being declared
A parent or sponsor, for a child’s declaration
Passport or Emirates ID, original
UAE residence visa page
Any available proof of address
A witness, where the receiving authority asks for one
Where a residence declaration gets stuck
A residence declaration is questioned when the stated address has nothing behind it at all, no tenancy contract, no bill, no bank statement, even in someone else’s name, or when the address differs from one already on file with the same authority. We ask what supporting proof exists before notarising, and where there is genuinely none, we say so, because a declaration with no supporting document behind it is accepted less often than one with even partial proof.
Common problems, and the fix
01
No supporting proof exists at all
Fix: ask whether a letter from the landlord or sponsor can help.
02
The address differs from an earlier record
Fix: explain the change, or correct the earlier record first.
03
The declaration is for a child
Fix: a parent or legal guardian signs, not the child.
04
The two languages differ
Fix: correct both texts together before signing.
After notarisation
01
Submit it to the authority
The notarised declaration goes to the school, bank, sponsor or department.
02
Attach the supporting proof
Submit it alongside any tenancy contract, bill or bank statement you have.
03
Keep a copy
Keep the notarised original and a copy for your own file.

Where a different declaration is needed
If what you actually need to confirm is solvency or a name, not an address, a different declaration applies.

Questions about residence declarations
Why would I need a residence declaration instead of just a tenancy contract?
Because you are not named on a tenancy, or the available proof does not cover the period or person the authority needs.
Can a residence declaration stand with no other proof at all?
It is accepted less often that way. Tell us what you have, even partial proof, and we advise.
Can I get one for my child?
Yes. A parent or legal guardian signs it, confirming the child’s address.
Does a residence declaration need to be renewed?
Some authorities ask for one dated recently. Check the specific requirement and tell us the date it is needed by.
Can I sign online?
Yes, our online notary service covers most residence declarations. Call or WhatsApp us to check yours.
What if my address has recently changed?
Tell us the new address and when it changed. We word the declaration to match.
